Project Green Jhelum

District Administration has engaged Forest Department to execute Project Green Jhelum, the first ever initiative of its kind in Jhelum. This year 77,700 ornamental shrubs, palm trees and flowering plants covering an area of 21 km starting from Rathian to Jada, Jada to Shandar Chowk, Shandar Chowk to Y- Cross, Y-cross to kutchehry chowk shall be planted.

Project Green Jhelum moves further- having done plantation & restoration with evergreen shrubs & fragrant plants on road median of Tahliawala road and Kutchehry road during July & August.

Deputy Commissioner inaugurated Phase II on 3rd Oct with plantation of Alstonia trees alongside Civil Lines road adjacent to Church, A.S. road adjoining Islamia High School and MMM road outside Tehsil Office Jhelum.

Phase II shall include landscaping and horticulture plan with plantation of 70,000 trees, ornamental shrubs, palm trees and flowering plants covering an area of 21 km starting from Rathian to Jada, Jada to Shandar Chowk, Shandar Chowk to Y- Cross.

In phase III we aim to plant tree/ ornamental shrubs/ fragrant plants at all remaining available spaces in the City Jhelum.

The objective of the project is to beautify the city, provide healthier, greener communities and bring all great benefits of vegetation cover for our citizenry. Three years maintenance (by forest department) period after completion of the project is the unique feature to ensure its success and sustainability.
